The Weekly Review follows the same format each week. The agenda is below and, in discussing the items on it, trainees and CMs consider:
- how the trainee’s practice has developed over the past week;
- the progress of the children they have taught.
If there is a placement theme that week, the trainee’s progress in this area should also be discussed.
The following is taken from page 8 of the handbook.
The Agenda
- Review pupil progress
- Generally, have the children made expected progress as a result of the beginning teacher’s teaching?
- What led to this outcome? (The answers to this question lead into the following items)
- Discussion the reflection on the targets beginning teachers have been working on
- Have they been met or not been met?
- What has enabled or restricted this? (So what does the beginning teacher need to keep doing or need to do?)
- Which strands of the tracker is this evidence of meeting? Can the strand be highlighted?
- What is the evidence that supports the beginning teacher’s progress (see page 21)?
- Review teaching moments 1 and 2
- See “Framing the teaching moments discussion” guidance
- Discussion about the teaching moments should support the beginning teacher in completing the relevant ‘modify’ section of the reflection framework in ePortfolio.
- Set three targets, and their action plans, for next week
- The FIA should evolve from teaching moment 2
- Discuss any findings from the PDAs completed during the week
- Plan which lessons will be taught next week and discuss any other logistics for the week ahead
Discussions should use the themes and language of the tracker, and centre on the progress of the beginning teacher and the progress of the children being taught. How is the former impacting the latter?
Beginning teachers are encouraged to lead the discussions drawing on their own critical reflections and self-evaluations of their progress and refer to evidence to support this.
