The use of the Beginning Teacher Progress Tracker (The Tracker) should be ongoing throughout each placement, with a different tracker used in each School Placement. The strands are highlighted to show those that have been attained by the trainee and the grid arrangement allows them to see exactly what it is that they need to do in order to improve and develop their practice.

The highlighting of the strands should follow the discussions that take place during the Weekly Review, and only those strands that the mentor judges to be embedded in the beginning teacher’s practice should be highlighted. Beginning teachers must not highlight of their own accord, and the strands should not be treated as a one-off tick list. Please use the colours of the key that is on the front page when highlighting.
