This Week

The theme of week 2 is promoting positive learning behaviours, which is an Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) theme. So, for most of next week, beginning teachers will explore the topic in university (Monday and Thursday) and in school (Tuesday and Wednesday). As their work on the PDAs in school is complemented by the university sessions, it is important that they stay focused on completing the PDAs at all time when in school and avoid other activities during this time.

Beginning teachers will need to have familiarised themselves with the school’s behaviour policy before they arrive in school.

The second day involves beginning teachers working with groups of children, so it will be helpful if class teachers are able to discuss with them what they will be doing with their groups in advance.

Professional Development Journal (PDJ)

The Professional Development Journal available is available on the partnership website and Blackboard. It contains all the PDAs that beginning teachers must engage with and is the handbook for the LATiS placement.

Next Week

The beginning teachers will be in for three days, 07-09 Oct. focusing on the theme of planning and assessment. Beginning teachers will need access to some form of planning for the lesson they observe the class teacher teach (PDA 3b) and PDAs 3d and 3h require the beginning teachers to plan their group sessions. Further details to help prepare for next week can be found in the Professional Development Journal (PDJ) pages 11-14.

Professional Tutor Visits

The university’s professional tutors will soon be in contact with class teachers to arrange an informal visit to the school in Week 3. The purpose of the visit is to see the beginning teachers in action, have a quick chat with class teachers and provide any additional support. It is not a formal visit and no special arrangements need making to accommodate it. Contact details of the professional tutors can be found on the contact page.
