With apologies for the late timing of this post.
This Week
Please note that beginning teacher’s will be in school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
The theme of week 3 is planning and assessment, and is not part of an ITaP theme.
Beginning teachers will need to have familiarised themselves with the school’s planning and assessment policies before completing the tasks.
Beginning teachers will need sight of the planning for the lesson they observe the class teacher teach (PDA 3b) and PDAs 3d and 3h require them to plan their group sessions. Further details to help prepare can be found in the Professional Development Journal (PDJ) pages 12-15.
Depending on how schools organise their curriculum and timetable, the PDAs for this week can be switched around as necessary.
For PDAs 3d and 3h, beginning teachers will plan two successive group work sessions. If the school does not plan and teach foundation subjects in topics that are delivered daily, beginning teachers could plan and teach a group during core subject lessons. For example, one beginning teacher could teach maths whilst the other teaches English.
Essentially, each beginning teacher plans in advance two successive sessions for working with the same group of children during the class teacher’s lessons. After delivering the first session (PDA 3d), the beginning teacher evaluates it and makes any appropriate amendments to the planning of the second session before they deliver this the following day (PDA3h).
Next Week
The trainees will be in school on 15-16 Oct. (Wednesday and Thursday) focusing on the theme of effective modelling. It is an ITaP theme, so it is important all trainees are able to complete all the tasks. As last week, trainees will be teaching small groups but they do not need to plan for these. Instead, they should take direction form the class teacher (please see PDAs 4b and 4c).
Professional Tutor Visits
These will take place this week (07-09 Oct.) If you encounter any issues, please contact the appropriate tutor.
Science Day
All LATiS schools should now be aware of the arrangements for science day on Thursday 06 Nov. Please contact Julie Reynolds if you require any further information.
