Tuesday 04 October
On Tuesday of this week (04 Nov.) beginning teachers will meet with their School Placement 1 mentors at the University. As they need to be on campus between 1615 and 1645, we would be grateful if host teachers would allow them to leave school with sufficient time to arrive at the university on time. This may mean leaving school earlier than normal and is likely to apply more to trainees who are using public transport. Trainees travelling by car will not normally need to leave much earlier than normal, if at all, and not all trainees will need to travel to campus as some will meet their mentor online at a later date and should therefore remain at school as normal.
This Week
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (04 and 05 Nov.), beginning teachers are to spend half a day each in EYFS, Key Stage 1, Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2. Where possible they should avoid spending time in the year group they spent time in during weeks 1 to 5. They are to observe teaching and support groups focusing on all that has been considered in Weeks 1-5, namely (See PDA 6a, p.22 of the PDJ):
- promoting positive learning behaviours
- planning and assessment
- modelling
- questioning
Beginning teachers who have spent time in KS2 over the past few weeks, should observe a phonics lesson whilst in KS1 this week, and those who have been in KS1 should observe an English lesson whilst in KS2 this week (See PDA 6b, p.22 of the PDJ).
On Thursday, 06 Nov., the beginning teachers will be teaching the sessions that they have planned for Science Day. All arrangements for this are now in place.
The Last Week
Week 6 is the last week of the LATiS placement and the tutor team would therefore like to thank all the class teachers who have hosted our beginning teachers over the past six weeks. We feel confident that they now have a firm foundation on which to build their practice throughout School Placement 1.
All the contact details of class teachers will now be removed from the system so they do not receive any further update notifications.
Finally, if you have the time, we welcome any feedback class teachers care to give us regarding the LATiS provision. To do so, simply complete the form at https://forms.office.com/e/H9uQdLNpR4. Thank you.
