Apologies for the late timing of this post. We have also made some changes to the PDAs for Week 3 which can be found in the updated PDJ:

The main change relates to PDA 3b, which now allocates dedicated time for beginning teachers to plan their small-group teaching. For PDA 3a, beginning teachers will be required to complete the electronic version of the table on page 15 of the PDJ. To support this, we will add a pre-formatted version of the table to their ePortfolio, ready for them to complete.

Further details on LATiS can be found on this page.

This Week

Please note that beginning teacher’s will be in school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.

The theme of week 3 is planning and assessment, and is not part of an ITaP theme.

Beginning teachers will need to have familiarised themselves with the school’s planning and assessment policies before completing the tasks.

For some of this weeks PDAs, it will be helpful if the beginning teachers can have sight of any long-term, medium-term or short-term planning that will assist them in planning their small group teaching (see PDAs 3b, 3d and 3h. Further details can be found in the Professional Development Journal (PDJ).

Depending on how schools organise their curriculum and timetable, the PDAs for this week can be switched around as necessary.

For PDAs 3d and 3h, beginning teachers will plan two successive group work sessions. If the school does not plan and teach foundation subjects in topics that are delivered daily, beginning teachers could plan and teach a group during core subject lessons. For example, one beginning teacher could teach maths whilst the other teaches English.

Essentially, beginning teachers plans in advance (PDA 3b) two successive sessions for working with the same group of children during the class teacher’s lessons. After delivering the first session (PDA 3d), the beginning teacher evaluates it and makes any appropriate amendments to the planning of the second session before they deliver this the following day (PDA3h).

Next Week

The beginning teachers will be in school on 14-15 Oct. (Wednesday and Thursday) focusing on the theme of effective modelling. It is an ITaP theme, so it is important all beginning teachers are able to complete all the tasks. As this week, they will be teaching small groups but they do not need to plan for these. Instead, they should take direction form the class teacher (please see PDAs 4b and 4c).

Professional Tutor Visits

These will take place this week (06-08 Oct.) If you encounter any issues, please contact the appropriate tutor.

Science Day

All LATiS schools will now be aware of Science Day, taking place on Thursday 05 Nov. Further details will be sent to schools shortly so please do keep a look out for an email from Julie in the next few days.
