RS4 and the Weekly Review
Please see last week’s update for further details of completing the RS4 and changes to the Weekly Review Meeting to facilitate this.
A final formal observation should be completed this week but there is no need to identify the two teaching moments. Because beginning teachers are reflecting more widely in writing the RS4, there is no need for them to also reflect on any teaching moments. There is also no need to set targets as it is the last week. Tutors will be discussing possible ECT targets with beginning teachers and mentors, if they haven’t done so already.
PDA12 Early Reading including SSP
For those in a KS1 environment, please can we remind everyone to ensure this PDA is completed by the end of the placement. Full details can be found on p.12 of the PDJ. Beginning teachers should ensure they have:
- completed the reflection (400-500 words) in ePortfolio
- uploaded the lesson plan to ePortfolio
- uploaded the lesson observation form to ePortfolio
(Beginning teachers in a KS2 environment may also want to double check they have done all this in preparing their ePortfolios ready for submission.)
iPads
Beginning teachers are reminded not to leave the University’s iPads and chargers in school after this week. They need to be returned to the University on Mon. 29 Jun. Please do not forget.
All video clips must be deleted and then permanently deleted before the iPad leaves school. This iPad User Guide provides instructions on how to delete and then permanently delete video clips. To ensure the correct guidance is provided, please select the correct iPadOS version from the dropdown box at the top of the page. If you are unsure of the iPadOS version of your iPad, go to Settings (the cog icon), then select General (left-hand menu) and then About (right-hand menu).
Schools Environmental Education Network: Summer term meeting
Mentors may be interested in the following email communication. The organisers have asked us to share this with you as they are extending the invite to anyone who is interested. You are most welcome to attend.
Dear SEEN members,
This is a reminder that our Summer term meeting will take place on Wednesday 24 June, from 4.00pm to 6.00pm at Bevois Town Primary School, Southampton.
The afternoon will include a tour of the school grounds with Hannah Bousott, highlighting ecological enhancements, and a short practical session led by author Yarrow Townsend.
We are still welcoming contributions. Please contact us if you would like to share local environmental news, updates, or current work within your school. This could include new initiatives, classroom or outdoor activities, reflections on what has worked well, curriculum-linked work, outdoor learning, biodiversity initiatives, or partnerships with your local community. Sharing your experiences helps to inspire and support others.
We look forward to seeing you soon,
With best wishes
Andri Christodoulou A.Christodoulou@soton.ac.uk, Kira Terry EducationKEE@soton.ac.uk and Marcus Grace mmg1@soton.ac.uk

“…And Finally”
As this is the last update of the placement, we would like to extend our thanks to all the mentors and school communities who have supported our beginning teachers throughout SP2. We would be grateful if mentors could pass on our thanks to other members of staff who have also been involved in this learning to teach journey.
Enjoy the summer holiday, when it arrives, and we look forward to working with you all next year.
Thank you!
